Kompany Backs Kane to Face Real Madrid Despite Ankle Concern
Vincent Kompany expressed confidence that Harry Kane will be fit for Bayern Munich’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid next week. The striker missed England’s second international match due to muscle discomfort and has not trained during the break.
Kane stands as the primary offensive threat that Real Madrid fears entering this tie. He is experiencing arguably his finest season, having already accumulated 48 goals in 40 games. Alongside Luis Diaz and Michael Olise, he anchors a formidable attacking unit that has dismantled most opponents Bayern encountered this campaign.
Kompany’s Assessment
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s Bundesliga fixture against Freiburg this weekend, Kompany told BILD of his optimism regarding Kane’s availability for Madrid. The player will miss the weekend clash, though the manager framed it as precautionary.
“Harry trained well until Sunday. Then he felt something in his ankle while on international duty. That will affect tomorrow’s game; he won’t be available. It’s not ideal. But I’m optimistic about Tuesday.”
Real Madrid’s Injury Situation
Thibaut Courtois remains the significant absentee for Real Madrid, likely unavailable for both legs of the quarter-final. Andriy Lunin has performed capably in his absence, yet the Belgian’s shot-stopping prowess presents a difficult standard to match.
Manager Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed Eder Militao has returned to full fitness this week. Currently, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo Goes appear set to miss the opening leg at the Santiago Bernabéu through injury on Tuesday. Jude Bellingham has regained fitness, though his involvement remains uncertain after limited playing time since early February.
