Flick Commits After Title Triumph

The announcement followed Barça‘s 2–0 victory over Real Madrid that sealed the LaLiga championship. The extension rewards a productive two-season stint in Catalonia for the former Bayern Munich coach, who delivered the league title while restoring defensive solidity across the squad.

Flick’s Words on the New Deal

Flick acknowledged the agreement came together quickly, but was direct about his conviction.

“Has this been announced? I’m sorry, but I’ve had a lot on my mind. I’m very grateful to the club for the opportunity to coach until 2028. The club has the right to terminate it, and so do I.”

“We’ll discuss that optional year later. In recent days, it’s become clear to me that I’m in the right place. Now it’s time to keep winning and try again to win the Champions League. I’m very grateful to the club for their confidence.”

The 100-Point Target

With the title secured by a 14-point cushion, Flick is pushing his side through the final three fixtures rather than winding down. The upcoming trip to face Alavés is no exception.

“The goal now is to reach 100 points, and to do that we have to win the three remaining matches and play well.”

Leadership and Resilience Through Injuries

Flick pointed to several players as key drivers of the dressing room culture. Gavi and Pedri were singled out for their leadership roles, alongside Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araújo, and Raphinha as the group’s captains and standard-setters.

“We have different kinds of leaders. There’s Gavi, who, since returning to training, has raised the level of our sessions; he’s the heart of the team. There’s Pedri, a leader with the ball. Eric [Garcia] is too. And the captains, like Frenkie [de Jong], Ronald [Araújo], Raphinha.”

On the injury toll the squad absorbed across the season, Flick was candid about what the group overcame.

“The first thing we have to do is make people happy. And I’m proud of that, and I’ve told the players that because it’s been a difficult season due to injuries. There have been key players who haven’t been available at times, like Lamine [Yamal], Pedri, Raphinha, Frenkie. And it’s incredible the season we’ve had and how we’ve improved in the last two months in attack and defence. We’ve conceded the fewest goals, and nobody expected that.”

With Flick now locked in through 2028 and a domestic title already secured, Barcelona’s focus shifts to sustaining this momentum into Europe. Follow TipsGG for continued coverage of Barça‘s run-in and the road to next season.
