Newcastle United Retain Midfield Anchor Despite Arsenal Interest
Eddie Howe has addressed the speculation linking Sandro Tonali with a move to Arsenal during the final hours of the transfer window. Manager Confirms Midfielder Commitment
Speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City, Howe confirmed he held private talks with Tonali to clarify the situation. The manager emphasized that the Italian international remains fully integrated into the project at St James’ Park.
There was no intention from our side to lose Sandro at all. He is very happy here, loves playing for Newcastle and loves the city. Sandro is absolutely fine. I had discussions with him yesterday. His focus is on the here and now and with us. There is no issue with Sandro himself. He is happy and committed.
The Newcastle boss acknowledged that elite talent will naturally draw attention from rival clubs but insisted the bond between the player and the squad remains intact. He lightened concerns regarding a repeat of the summer rumors surrounding Alexander Isak and Liverpool, noting Tonali‘s positive relationship with his teammates.
