Chelsea Receives Firm Rejection from Francesco Farioli for Manager Role
Chelsea are searching for a new head coach following the sacking of Liam Rosenior, but Francesco Farioli has made clear he will not be filling the vacancy. The Porto boss rejected the opportunity outright, citing his commitment to the Portuguese club and his settled family situation.
Rosenior’s departure came after a disastrous 23-game stint that culminated in a 3-0 loss to Brighton. The result marked Chelsea’s fifth consecutive Premier League defeat without scoring, leaving the club seventh in the table and facing the realistic prospect of missing the Champions League entirely. Calum McFarlane has been appointed interim manager and will remain in charge for the remainder of the season.
Farioli’s Position Unchanged
Farioli already rejected Chelsea interest in January when Enzo Maresca departed. His stance has only hardened since then. Back then, he spoke with visible emotion about the trust he received from Porto president Andre Villas-Boas, emphasizing the special connection he felt at the club.
“Here in Porto, I truly believe that there is something more, something deeper, in terms of connection and relationship with the president and with the club. From my side, I am totally committed to the club and totally connected to the reality we are living in. Because maybe here for the first time in my life, I have the feeling that you can try to add something on top of a strong foundation, to build the first floor and keep building something over time.”
According to A Bola, Farioli’s conviction remains absolute. He has zero interest in the Chelsea position, and his family is settled and content in Porto. While a release clause exists in his contract, any departure would still require his personal consent, which is not forthcoming.

The Sporting Reality
Porto currently lead the Primeira Liga by seven points over Benfica and are on course to secure the title and Champions League qualification for next season. Farioli is well aware that Chelsea face elimination from European competition.
The sporting calculation favors Porto. Farioli can enhance his reputation by winning the title and returning the club to continental football, or he can gamble on Chelsea, where managerial tenure has become notoriously volatile. Stamford Bridge has become a graveyard for coaching ambitions, making the choice straightforward for the Italian tactician.
