Serbia’s EuroBasket campaign has taken a major blow. Team captain and key scoring threat Bogdan Bogdanović has been officially ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after suffering a hamstring tear, as confirmed by both Meridian Sport and the Serbian national team.
The injury occurred during Serbia’s recent match against Portugal. Following an initial medical review, Bogdanović awaited a final decision from the Los Angeles Clippers’ medical staff. Unfortunately for Serbia, the prognosis confirmed a ruptured hamstring muscle an injury that ends his participation in the European Championship.
According to the Serbian federation’s official statement:
“Bogdanović has been diagnosed with a ruptured hamstring muscle, which will prevent him from playing in the remainder of the European Championship. In agreement with Bogdan’s club, the Los Angeles Clippers, the captain will undergo intensive therapy in the United States to recover as quickly as possible.”

In Bogdanović’s absence, experienced playmaker Stefan Jović will now take over captain duties for the rest of the competition.
The loss is significant. Bogdanović is not just a leader; he’s one of Serbia’s most decorated players with Olympic silver and bronze medals, two World Cup silvers, and a EuroBasket silver already under his belt. If Serbia goes on to claim the title this year, it would be his first major gold and a crowning achievement even if earned from the sidelines.
With a proud national team pedigree and the motivation to honour their sidelined captain, expect Serbia to rally around this setback. Bettors and fans alike should keep a close eye on how Jović marshals the team in the next fixtures this could be a defining moment in Serbia’s EuroBasket story.
