Lewandowski out of Girona, El Clasico participation in doubt
Robert Lewandowski has a hamstring injury and will miss Barcelona’s La Liga trip to Girona this weekend, leaving his availability for the meeting with Real Madrid at the Bernabéu on 26 October uncertain.
The 37-year-old striker, who netted for Poland in their 2-0 World Cup qualifying win against Lithuania on Sunday, did not travel for the Girona match. Barcelona face Olympiakos in the Champions League next Tuesday before the big fixture in Madrid.
“Robert Lewandowski has suffered a hamstring injury in his left thigh. He will be sidelined, and his recovery time will depend on how the injury progresses,” Barcelona said.
Spanish media have reported the lay-off could be around four weeks, though the club has not given a firm timetable.
Lewandowski has scored four goals in nine appearances for the La Liga champions this season. He joins Raphinha, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Joan Garcia on the sidelines.
There was better news elsewhere: forwards Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have returned to training and could be available for selection in the weeks ahead.
