Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot is in talks with the Dutch FA (KNVB) to become the next Netherlands manager, sources confirmed on Monday. Slot was dismissed from his Liverpool position in June following a difficult 2025-26 season, during which the club narrowly secured UEFA Champions League qualification.
The 47-year-old won the Premier League in his debut season on Merseyside. According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Slot features on the KNVB’s shortlist to replace Ronald Koeman, who stepped down after a poor World Cup campaign. The Netherlands were eliminated in the round of 32 after Morocco beat them on penalties.
Plettenberg reports that initial talks have already taken place, with other candidates still in contention. Italian transfer journalist Nicolo Schira reported earlier in July that Erik ten Hag, currently serving as technical director at FC Twente, is also being considered.
Slot launched his managerial career at Cambuur Leeuwarden in 2016 before taking charge of AZ in 2019. The former midfielder moved to Feyenoord in 2021, where he spent four productive years in Rotterdam. He claimed the Eredivisie title in 2023 and the Dutch Cup in 2024, and guided the club to the UEFA Conference League final in 2022.
