Intel Extreme Masters XVIII Dallas 2023 is one of the biggest tournaments of the year, the third from IEM in the year, after Katowice and Brazil, this is the last IEM tournament before Cologne, and this is where 16 teams will fight also for a spot there in Cologne, but also 16 teams will fight for a prize pool of 250.000 dollars. But to get into these 16 teams, we have to go through several qualifiers.
European Qualifier - As expected in every single closed qualifier there are open qualifiers, in Europe since is where there are the biggest amounts of volume of teams, we need 2 open qualifiers, and on both of them, several teams will fight on a single elimination bracket, you lose you are out, and all matches are BO1 with the exception of qualification matches, those will be BO3. And only the 2 best teams from each open qualifier will advance into the closed qualifier. In the closed qualifier, we will have 4 invited teams, plus 4 teams from the open qualifiers, and those 8 teams will fight on a double elimination bracket, which means that 2 losses, and you are out, and all matches will be BO3, but either the winner from the upper bracket and the winner from the lower bracket will be qualified for IEM Dallas 2023.
North America Qualifier - With fewer teams but also with 2 open qualifiers each with 16 teams, but they will all go head-to-head on a single elimination bracket, where all matches are BO1, but all qualification matches will be B03, keep in mind that in north america open qualifier, only the best team from each open qualifier will go into the closed qualifier, which means only 2 teams will go through, 1 from each open qualifier. In the closed qualifier we will have 4 teams, 2 invited teams, and 2 from the open qualifier, and these 4 teams will face each other in a double elimination bracket, all matches will be BO3, and 2 losses equals elimination, and only the winner from the grand final, will advance into IEM Dallas 2023 main stage.
South America Qualifier - Close enough, the qualifier also has 2 open qualifiers, with 16 teams each, and will face each other in a single elimination bracket, all matches being BO1, qualification matches being a BO3, the winner from each open qualifier will go into closed qualifier, where we will have 2 teams from open qualifier, plus 2 invited teams, and here is already a bit different, because it will be a double elimination bracket, with all matches being BO3, and only one team will advance into the IEM Dallas main stage tournament.
Oceanic Qualifier - Same story happens on the oceanic qualifier, with 2 open qualifiers both with 16 teams from Oceania, on a single elimination bracket, all matches BO1, and qualification matches being BO3, where the winner from each open qualifier will advance into the closed qualifier, that has also the same format from the previous 2 that we have just seen. 2 invited teams playing against the 2 teams from the open qualifier, on a double elimination bracket all matches being BO3 and only the winner team will advance into the main event on IEM Dallas 2023. Remembering that every invited team will play against an open qualifier team in the forts round from the closed qualifier.
Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2023 Overview
The main stage from the IEM Dallas, will take place at the end of May 2023, and will take place on LAN on the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas on the USA, and out of 16 teams, 5 will come from the closed qualifier like we have seen, 6 teams will come as ESL Partner Teams, 4 teams will come from ESL world Ranking, and just a single team will come as the top one form ESL World Ranking NA.
The format will be 2 groups, each one with 8 teams, and both groups are a double elimination bracket, which means, 2 losses and you are out. All opening matches will be BO1, and all following matches will be BO3. The top 2 teams from the upper bracket from each group will be qualified, but the group stage winner will advance into playoffs directly into semifinals, so they have a clear edge, while the runner-up teams, will also advance into playoffs, but at the quarterfinals high seeds. The winners from the lower bracket from each group will advance into quarterfinals low seeds, and the other teams will be eliminated.
At the playoffs stage, each match will be a quarterfinals match, but the second placed team from group A high seed will face the third placed from group B low seed, and the third placed from group A low seed will face the second placed team from group B high seed, and the winners from those matches will face group stage winners on the semifinals. Remember that in playoffs, it´s a single elimination bracket, you lose you are out, no second chances allowed. The winners from the semifinals will face each other in a thrilling BO5 Grand Final, to crown the ultimate champion from IEM Dallas 2023, and the winner will take home 100.000 dollars and will secure a spot on IEM Cologne later in July.
