Considered by many to be the heart and soul of the Counter-Strike esports scene, IEM Katowice returns once again in 2023 - and hopefully many more times in the future. This S-tier offline event has 24 teams square off one against another on the Spodek Arena battlefield. With a prize pool of $1 000 000 and the fame that comes with winning in Katowice, the stakes are high, as always.
The tournament features three stages:
Play-in with a double-elimination bracket.
Group Stage, with two double-elimination groups. Depending on the teams' performance, they either advance to Semifinals or the Quarterfinals, or are eliminated altogether.
Playoffs in a simple single-elimination bracket.
All matches, except for Play-in opening (Best-of-1) and the Grand Final (best-of-5), are played as Best-of-3.
While FaZe Clan was considered the main favorite of the whole event by most bookies, the team got eliminated early on in the Group Stage. Now it's up to the rest of the top-3 of favorites, Natus Vincere and Heroic to prove their worth - but their competition will make it anything but easy.
