The seventeenth installment of the beloved Intel Extreme Masters series, Rio Major 22 is the largest offline event for the rest of 2022. This S-tier championship is sponsored by Valve, and hosts 24 teams from all over the world.
The event is divided into three stages: Challengers, Legends, and Champions. The first two stages are played in a Swiss system format, with 8 bottom teams dropping out of each. The Champions stage, however, switches to the Single-Elimination bracket. All matches played as best-of-3.
Out of the 24 teams, 8 are invited directly thanks to their status as Legends. These include FaZe Clan, Natus Vincere, Ninjas in Pyjamas, ENCE, Sprout, Heroic, Team Spirit, and Team Liquid.
As for the favorites to take on the event, FaZe Clan seems to be the most prominent poll leader. The international squad saw massive success in 2022, winning ESL Pro League Season 15, PGL Major Antwerp, and IEM Cologne in a row. Their closest runner ups are Natus Vincere, the legendary Ukrainian team that completed the most dominant run in CS:GO's esports history in 2021. However, NaVi are struggling in 2022 after the roster swaps.
