The tenth installment of the famed Intel Extreme Masters series located in Spodek, IEM Katowice X is back in its best form once again. The grand event is scheduled to last from February 15th - starting from a play-in stage - all the way throughout February 27th, culminating in the Best-of-5 Grand Final. 24 teams from all around the world will clash for the total prize pool of $1 000 000, as well as the chance to prove their worth by completing the Intel Grand Slam challenge.
Eight rosters have directly qualified for the event's main stage beforehand: Natus Vincere, Gambit Esports, G2 Esports, Team Vitality, Heroic, Virtus.pro, FURIA Esports, and Team Liquid. The rest of the competitors will have to pass through the Play In gauntlet - played in a Best-of-1 and Best-of-3 format, top eight teams proceed to the next stage format - to get a shot at the trophy.
As IEM Katowice is the first Major-tier event of the year, most attending teams will still be in the process of rebuilding, restructuring, and reworking their teamplay structure. One team stands above the rest, however: Natus Vincere come into the year as the absolute dominant force on the CS:GO landscape. The CIS-based team comes into the year without experiencing any roster shifts, adding that to a quite sizable list of advantages they hold over the competition.
