ESL Pro League Season 17 is one of the biggest CSGO tournaments of the year, and will start at the end of February and will end at the end of March 2023, and will take place on Malta on LAN, featuring 32 teams, but to reach here the teams will have to go through the respective conferences, and there is one per continent, and only the best teams will be able to reach the ESL Pro League. The prize pool from this tournament is 850.000 dollars, one of the biggest of the year, so it´s definitely a trophy that players pursue.
European Conference
The European conference features 14 teams from who won some regional tournaments, and these 14 teams participated on a double elimination bracket, all matches being BO3, which means that losing twice, they would be out. Losing a single match the team would automatically drop into the lower bracket, and while on the upper bracket 2 teams could be qualified, on the lower bracket only 1 could be qualified, so they definitely couldn´t lose. 3 teams got the qualification for EPL S17, in this year, Eternal Fire, SAW and Forze were the teams.
North American Conference
Only 3 teams were competing each other coming from ECL seasons 41,42 and 43, ATK, Nouns and MIBR were the teams, and since ATK got the edge, NOUNS and MIBR faced each other on a double eliminated bracket with the winner facing ATK to check which 2 of these 3 teams would get the qualification for ESL Pro League Season 17, MIBR and ATK were the qualified teams.
South America Conference
On South America, also only 3 teams did make it to that stage, with Flamengo winning the open qualifier, out of 8 teams participating on a single elimination bracket where all matches were BO1, and the Grand Finals against Meta Gaming was a BO3, Flamengo was the team that got into the conference, while Imperial came from ECL Melbourne and 00 Nation from Brasil Premier League. Since Imperial were high rated, 00 Nation and Flamengo faced each other on a double elimination bracket, and Imperial and 00 Nation managed to pull it off and get the passport into the ESL Pro League Season 17.
Asian Conference
Also, here three teams from ECL S41, 42 and 43, Rare Atom, Lynn Vision Gaming and IHC Esports being the top 3 asian teams, but here only 2 could go through, and since Lynn Vision were the highest rated team, Rare Atom and IHC went head-to-head on a double elimination bracket, all matches BO3, and weirdly, Lynn Vision, despite having the advantage they still lost 2 matches and IHC and Rare Atom were the qualified teams for EPL S17.
Oceanic Conference
Like on South America Conference, here also we had an open qualifier, with 8 teams participating on a single bracket elimination match, all BO1, only the grand finals was a BO3, and Hello Kitten uwu managed to pull it off and get the place in the conference, alongside teams like Grayhound, the highest rated team, and Rooster, who had to face Hello Kitten uwu on a double bracket elimination match, but it was really Rooster and Grayhound the teams to advance to EPL S17.
ESL Pro League Season 17 Overview
With 11 teams found from the Conferences, 15 are already permanent partners teams from ESL, so they are automatically in the tournament as well, 3 teams are also here because of the ESL World Ranking, Movistar Riders won ESL Challenger Valencia, Pain won ESL Challenger Melbourne and Outsiders won ESL Challenger Rotterdam. To start the process, we have to go into the group stage.
Group Stage - We will have 4 groups and each group with 8 teams, the matches will be all BO3, and all are triple elimination groups, which means, 3 losses and you are eliminated, since there is an upper bracket, a mid bracket, and a lower bracket, so plenty of chances. Top 4 teams of which group will advance into playoffs, so we will have a total of 16 teams in the playoffs. The group stage winners will advance directly into quarterfinals, second placed teams will advance into round of 12 high seeds, and will play against the winners from 3rd and 4th placed in every single group, 3rd placed will go into round of 16 high seeds and 4th placed will go into round of 16 low seeds.
Playoffs - On playoffs we will have several BO3 matches, and it´s a single elimination bracket, which means you lose you are out, no second chances allowed, and the 3rd and 4th placed in the group stages will have clearly disadvantage and the group winners will get an obvious edge and more chance to move forward. This single elimination bracket will proceed until the Grand Final, the only BO5 match to decide the winner from ESL Pro League Season 17, that will bring home 200.000 dollars, and a secure spot at IEM Cologne 2023 later in July, where we already have IEM Katowice 2023 winners G2 Esports.
