The Major is the biggest competition in the history of CSGO, it´s here where legends are made, and teams will stay in history, however, there is still a long way to run to get into the Major, and we are going to dissect that step by step. This year, the Spring Major will be held in Paris in May, and will have a prize pool of 1.250.000 dollars, the biggest price on CSGO, and one of the biggest in Esports world.
European RMRs
The RMRs are the qualification progress that teams have to go to reach the Major, not only to reach but also to see where they will stay, Legends Stage or Contenders Stage or Challengers Stage, we will go through that later, there are RMRs for every single part of the world, 2 from Europe, where there are the biggest volume of teams, 1 for America and 1 for Asia-Pacifica. European RMRs are divided in 2 groups: A and B. To even reach the european RMR there are a couple of stages, starting on 2 open qualifiers, both with 64 teams each, so a total of 128 teams will fight for the open qualifier, and only 8 from each open qualifier will be going into the Close Qualifiers which is the next stage. In the open qualifiers is a single elimination bracket, and all matches are BO1, but the qualification matches are BO3, you just have to win 1 BO3 to get automatically in the Closed Qualifiers. However, you want to win more, so you don´t get into the Closed Qualifier Decider, because the 3 worst teams from each closed qualifier will go into the Closed Qualifier Decider, which is divided in 2 stages.
The first stage, all 6 teams will go head-to-head on a single elimination bracket, all BO3 matches, and the top seeded team will advance directly into European RMR Closed Qualifier B, while the other 2 teams will go into the second stage, on a final BO3 and the winner will advance into the European RMR Closed Qualifier A. And here on the closed qualifiers that´s where things get interesting.
As you know, there are 2 closed qualifiers, each with 16 teams, 8 that came from the open qualifier, and the other 8 from Valve Regional Standings, and these 16 teams from each Close qualifier will go head to head in a Swiss system format. All matches are BO1, but advanced and elimination matches are BO3, that will start on round 3 low matches and high matches and end at round 5. 3 wins will get you into the European RMR and 3 losses will get you eliminated. Top 9 teams will proceed into the European RMR, while the 9th place decider is resolved on a single BO3 single-elimination gauntlet, and 3 bottom teams from each closed qualifier will go into closed qualifier decider, like I have explained previously, and the rest 8 teams will be eliminated.
On the European RMRs, this will take place on LAN in Copenhagen, in each single one of them A and B, we will have 16 teams, 7 were qualified from IEM Rio 2022 Major, and the other 9 came from Closed qualifier, A and B, and the closed qualifier decider. And we will have the same exact format as on Closed Qualifier, all BO1 matches, Advanced and Elimination matches are BO3, 3 wins will get you into the major, and 3 losses will get you eliminated, 5 rounds at total. There will be a tiebreaker for the 4th place decider though, on a single BO3 match, the reason why is that top 4 teams will get into Legends Stage, and the other 4 will get into Challengers Status. Both 9th, 10th and 11th placed from each European RMR will get a final chance to get into the Major while the other teams will be eliminated, but these 6 have a final shot on the European RMR Decider. Close enough to the Close Qualifier Decider also with 2 stages, but in the first we will have 3 single elimination matches to find top 3 teams out of the 6, when found, the best team will go straight into the grand final, and the other 2 will go into stage 2 on another single elimination BO3, and the winner will get into the grand final, this last winner, will get into the Major as Contender Status.
American RMR
To get into the American RMR, North American and South American teams will be separated and will have 2 different close qualifiers, to get into the closed qualifiers, each closed qualifier will have 2 open qualifiers, each with 32 teams, and the top 4 teams in each open qualifier will get into the closed qualifier. On the open qualifiers, it´s a single elimination bracket, all matches are BO1, and qualification matches are BO3. In each closed qualifier, we will have 16 teams, 8 from Valve Regional Rankings, and 8 from each open qualifier, and those 16 teams will go head-to-head once again on a Swiss format system, where all matches will be BO1, advanced and qualification matches will be BO1, 3 wins will get you the qualification, and 3 losses is elimination. The top 7 teams from each closed qualifier will advance into American RMR, but the 7th and last spot will be decided on a single elimination BO3 match, and the other 9 teams will be eliminated.
The American RMR will also be played on LAN on Monterrey in Mexico, and will also feature 16 teams, Furia and Liquid qualified themselves from IEM Rio 2022 Major, and we have other 14 teams from the close qualifiers, 7 from North America and 7 from South America. Once again, the Swiss system format will be used here, all BO1 matches, and from round 3 we can already see some BO3, on high matches and low matches, and only 5 teams will be qualified. The first place will be decided on a tiebreaker on a single BO3 match, and the winner will get his place at the Legend Status, the runner-up will be on Challenger Status and the other 3 qualified teams will be on Contender Status, bottom 11 teams will be eliminated.
Asia- Pacific RMR
There are also some things that need to be done to find the best asian teams, and like on America, they are separated in different closed qualifiers but each and every single one of them have an open qualifier. In every single open qualifier, we will have 16 teams, that will fight on a single elimination bracket, all BO1 matches, you lose you are out, but the qualification matches are all BO3, however, only 4 teams from each open qualifier will get into the closed one. On every single closed qualifier (Asian, Oceanic, Chinese and Middle Eastern), we will have 8 teams, 4 from Valve Regional Ranking and 4 from the open qualifier, and these 8 teams will go head-to-head on a double elimination bracket, with all upper bracket matches being BO1 and all other matches being BO1, 2 losses and you are out. Only top 2 teams from each closed qualifier will advance into the RMR, and the other teams will be eliminated.
On the Asian-Pacific RMR, it´s going to be held on LAN as well as Ulaanbataar in Mongolia, and we will have 8 teams, 2 from each closed qualifier, that will go again on a double elimination bracket like they have done on the closed qualifier, and only the top 2 teams, will get into the Major.
Paris Major Overview
24 teams have qualified for the Major, 17 from Europe, 5 from America, and 2 from Asia-Pacific, divided in 3 status - 8 Legends, 8 Challengers and 8 Contenders. All matches will be held on Paris on the Accor Arena.
Challengers Stage - This is the first stage, where Challengers and Contenders will face each other, on a Swiss System Format, 5 rounds where from rounds 2 to 5 will be used the Buchholz System according to teams performances, all matches are BO1, qualification and elimination matches are BO3, 3 wins will get the qualification and 3 losses will get elimination. The top 8 teams will advance into the Legends stage, where we have already 8 teams waiting for them. Remembering that each time that got a Challengers Status will face a team with a Contenders Status on the opening match.
Legends Stage - Same story will be performed on the Legends Stage, between 8 teams with Legend Status, that will start facing each one of them a team that came from Challengers Stage. The format will be the same, and the top 8 teams will advance into the Championship Stage, where we will already have a crowd in the stage.
Championship Stage - This is where it all gets interesting, it will be a single elimination bracket between the 8 best teams from Legends Stage, and all matches will be BO3, including the Grand Final, you lose you are out, no second chances at this stage. The winners from the quarterfinals will go straight into semifinals, and the winners will go into the Grand Finals, where the winner will win 500.000 dollars and get their name at the history of CSGO and all Esports by winning a Major.
