Key Betting Angles

Spain are the tournament’s outstanding side. Luis de la Fuente’s men have not trailed in the knockout rounds, eliminating Portugal with a last-gasp Merino goal, beating Belgium 2–1 in the quarters, and then producing arguably the most dominant semi-final performance of the tournament against France — goals from Oyarzabal and Porro without reply. They have now scored in every knockout fixture and conceded just two goals across five matches.

Jude Bellingham is England’s standout performer — and a match-winner in high-stakes moments. He scored twice in the Round of 16 against Mexico and then struck twice again in extra time against Norway in the quarter-final, including the 93rd-minute winner. England have now come through two knockout matches via late goals, demonstrating resilience but also a tendency to make hard work of fixtures they should control.

Argentina have depth in attack but have been tested repeatedly. Messi was decisive in the group-stage thriller against Cape Verde and again in the round of 16 against Egypt, while the team has required extra time in three separate knockout ties. That pattern of late drama and physical load is worth considering heading into tonight’s semi-final against England.

Norway’s Erling Haaland was the tournament’s most lethal finisher before England ended their run. He scored twice against Ivory Coast in the Round of 32 and twice more against Brazil in the last 16 — both times sealing the game with a 90th-minute strike. France, who now await the loser of tonight’s semi-final in the third-place play-off, will have prepared defensive files accordingly.

France face a tricky third-place play-off despite their talent. Knocked out emphatically by Spain having previously swept Morocco and Paraguay aside, Les Bleus will be motivated to finish third rather than fourth — Mbappé has five goals in the tournament — but managing morale and fatigue after a semi-final exit is a consistent challenge for big squads in that fixture.
