Trent Alexander-Arnold has described his Real Madrid debut as “a proud moment” and insists he made the right choice in leaving Liverpool, following his first appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup against Al Hilal.
The 26-year-old stunned Reds fans with his high-profile move to Madrid last month, secured in time for the tournament with a modest £8 million transfer fee. But it was his confident unveiling — delivered in fluent Spanish — that truly turned heads, a linguistic milestone he said took “a few months” to prepare for.
‘I Made the Right Decision’
Starting Real Madrid’s Group H opener at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Alexander-Arnold said post-match:
“In my mind and my heart I know I made the right decision for me. Obviously, it was a very proud moment. I’m very happy to have made my debut.”
“Joining Real Madrid is something most, if not all, players dream of. It’s the first time I’ve moved clubs, so I didn’t know what to expect. I had no expectations coming in.”
The match ended in frustration for the Spanish giants, as Federico Valverde missed a stoppage-time penalty and they were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Hilal in what was also Xabi Alonso’s first game as manager.
Madrid Mentality and Early Adjustments
Despite the draw, Trent’s ambition and focus remain clear:
“Of course, there’s some disappointment. The mentality that comes with being a Real Madrid player is expecting to win every single game.”
“It will take a little bit of time to get used to the players and the team — it’s all new to me. But I’m loving every single minute of it.”
He also noted positives under Alonso:
“New coach, new ideas, some new players — there’s a foundation being built. The second half showed progress, and we’ll aim to win the next one.”
Betting Outlook: Real Madrid Still Tournament Favourites
While the result wasn’t ideal, punters should note that Real Madrid remain among the top betting favourites to win the tournament. Expect their outright odds to hold steady, especially as Alonso’s side builds cohesion. Watch for goal markets and team total bets in their upcoming fixtures as the squad settles into rhythm.
