Liverpool may be returning to Premier League action this weekend, but the transfer window remains the dominant conversation as the club races to complete business before the September 1 deadline.
Andoni Iraola takes charge of his first competitive fixture on Sunday when the Reds travel to face Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. Behind the scenes, the club hierarchy is pushing to finalize incoming deals. So far, Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet are the only new arrivals, with Jacquet’s deal having been confirmed back in January. Ronald Araujo has joined on a season-long loan from Barcelona, but attacking reinforcements remain the clear priority, with Mohamed Salah yet to be replaced.
$82M Target Considers Alternative Moves
Liverpool has been linked with several wide options as the window enters its final stretch. Bradley Barcola is the primary target, but his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Ibrahim Mbaye has also been identified as a candidate for Anfield. According to French outlet L’Equipe, both Barcola and Mbaye feel their respective transfer situations have dragged on too long. Neither player is expected to feature in Luis Enrique’s squad for PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Rennes.
The more pressing concern for Liverpool is the indication that Mbaye may look at alternative destinations in the final 10 days of the window if no agreement is reached. The valuation gap between the two clubs is the central obstacle. RMC Sport reported that Liverpool values the Senegal international at around £43 million ($58 million), while PSG are seeking closer to £60 million ($82 million). Mbaye is said to remain keen on the move, but a deal at this stage looks difficult.
Mbaye is not the only winger Liverpool are pursuing. Bids for Brighton‘s Yankuba Minteh confirm as much. The two players carry similar reported price tags, so it comes down to which represents better value. Minteh brings Premier League experience but is currently injured and faces a potential absence through October or November. Mbaye is younger, carries a high ceiling, and 41 appearances for a side that has won back-to-back Champions League trophies is meaningful context.
Bournemouth Will Not Sell Tyler Adams
Curtis Jones’ departure to Inter Milan was confirmed on Friday, ending the 25-year-old’s 16-year association with Liverpool. While the club’s attention is fixed on attacking additions, midfielder links have still surfaced. Reports this week suggested Iraola is keen to reunite with Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams at Liverpool. Football Insider has since reported that the Cherries have no intention of allowing the United States international to leave the Vitality Stadium this summer, and will hold firm on that position despite interest from Liverpool and other Premier League clubs. Adams is contracted until 2028.
The links with Adams have been speculative at best. Midfield is not where Liverpool’s most pressing needs lie this window. While the profile of the midfield unit is a concern for parts of the fanbase, the squad is not short on numbers in that area. If and when the club turns its attention to midfield reinforcements, Adams’ Bournemouth teammate Alex Scott or Crystal Palace‘s Adam Wharton represent more compelling candidates.
The final week of the window will define how ready this Liverpool squad is for the season ahead. Follow TipsGG for the latest updates as the deadline approaches.
