The Thunderpick World Championship 2026 runs from October 14-18 at the BLAST Arena studio in Malta, with eight teams fighting over a $1,000,000 prize pool. The timing matters as much as the money. This is one of the final opportunities for rosters to bank Valve points before the November 2 invite cutoff for the Singapore Major, which turns what could have been a quiet October event into something considerably sharper.
Every prize is split down the middle between the players and the organisation. That is unusual enough to be worth spelling out, because the headline $500,000 for the champions is really $250,000 to the five-man roster and $250,000 to the club.
Thunderpick World Championship 2026 prize money breakdown
| Place | Total | Player Prize | Team Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | $500,000 | $250,000 | $250,000 |
| 2nd | $250,000 | $125,000 | $125,000 |
| 3rd | $100,000 | $50,000 | $50,000 |
| 4th | $50,000 | $25,000 | $25,000 |
| 5th-6th | $30,000 | $15,000 | $15,000 |
| 7th-8th | $20,000 | $10,000 | $10,000 |
Nobody goes home empty-handed, which is the sensible way to build an eight-team field. The gap between first and second is still $250,000, though, so the grand final carries real weight beyond the trophy.
The eight teams
Falcons and FURIA headline the field as the only top-five sides in attendance. Legacy, fresh off their FISSURE Playground 3 title, and Aurora round out the top-10 representation. South American side 9z and the Russian pair of BETBOOM and PARIVISION complete the invited group, with Ninjas in Pyjamas taking the eighth slot.
- Falcons (Europe)
- FURIA (Brazil)
- Legacy (Brazil)
- Aurora (Türkiye)
- PARIVISION (Russia)
- BETBOOM (Russia)
- 9z (South America)
- Ninjas in Pyjamas (Europe)
Why Virtus.pro are not here
Virtus.pro originally earned the eighth spot through the Closed Qualifier, a run that pushed them back into the top 30 of the global VRS. It would have been their first major international LAN since IEM Chengdu 2025, with only Vladimir “b1st” Krasikov and Vadim “tO0RO” Arkov left from that lineup. They withdrew instead, citing visa problems for Aleksandr “AquaRS” Kovalev and health issues that have forced Dias “F0R3VER” Kutubay to temporarily step away from the active roster.
Thunderpick’s rulebook normally hands a vacated slot to the next eligible team in the VRS willing to accept an invite. Because the withdrawal landed inside 20 days of the start date, the replacement had to come from the host region instead, meaning Europe. Ninjas in Pyjamas got the call.
Format
Two double-elimination GSL groups open proceedings, each sending two teams through to a single-elimination playoff bracket. All matches are best-of-three except the grand final, which stretches to best-of-five. There is also a third-place decider before the final, so the $100,000 third-place money gets settled on the server rather than by seeding.
Opening matchups
Oct. 14, 2026
- 10:30 CET 9z vs Aurora
13:00 CET Falcons vs NiP
15:30 CET Legacy vs PVISION
18:00 CET FURIA vs BB Team
Falcons, as the highest seed, drew the replacement team in their opener. Group B is the tougher half on paper: Legacy arrive as FISSURE Playground 3 champions and run into PARIVISION, who welcome Andrei “arT” Piovezan back after he sat out ESL Pro League for health reasons. FURIA, whose calendar has been relentless, start against BETBOOM.
What the TipsGG team thinks
Honestly, the Major cutoff is the story here. Teams sitting on the invite bubble have one real swing left, and a deep run in Malta is worth more than the cash to several of these rosters. We think FURIA‘s schedule fatigue is the biggest variable in Group B, and that Legacy arriving with momentum from a title win makes them the sneaky pick to top it. Group A looks like Falcons‘ to lose, though Aurora have enough firepower to make the second slot awkward.
Any withdrawal results in the replacement team coming from the next eligible team in the VRS to accept an invite. As the withdrawal is within 20 days of the event’s start, the replacement team comes from the next eligible team in the event’s host region.
