Format, Bracket and Prize Money
Every series is a Bo3 apart from the Bo5 grand final. The winner banks $200,000, half of which goes to the players and half to the club, since the $500,000 pool is split evenly between player prize money and Club Share. Broadcast runs on StarLadder’s official Kick channel, and with only one match live at a time there is no B-stream.

MOUZ Have Form and the Kinder Half of the Draw
MOUZ arrive on the back of two straight grand finals. They won BLAST Bounty Season 2 by beating Spirit 3–1 in the final, then finished runner-up at BLAST Open Porto, where the run included wins over Falcons and Vitality before Spirit closed them out 3–1. Spirit are not in Barcelona. The only team that actually stopped MOUZ during that stretch has been removed from the bracket.
They sit third in the HLTV ranking and second in the latest Valve global ranking. The 2–0 sweep of Vitality in Porto is the eye-catching result, especially given MOUZ entered that match with a grim 2–12 head-to-head record (14.3% win rate) against the organization. Context matters there: Vitality were playing Justinas ‘jL’ Lekavicius in place of William ‘mezii’ Merriman, who was on paternity leave.
The opener against NRG looks like the softest of the four. MOUZ have taken four of the five maps played between the sides in 2026, and their most recent meeting at the CS Asia Championships went the distance only after MOUZ dropped Ancient before taking Nuke and Mirage. NRG have added Håkon ‘hallzerk’ Fjærli and brought Jeorge ‘Jeorge’ Endicott back in, which does very little to shift the picture. Past that, MOUZ move into the NAVI/Aurora side of the draw rather than the Vitality side.
Vitality Still Own the Highest Ceiling
Betting against Vitality at a tournament missing Spirit and Falcons is uncomfortable, and we know it. The first half of 2026 set a standard nobody else in this field came close to: five consecutive titles and a historic second Grand Slam. Then came three events without a top-four finish (four if you count qualifiers), snapped by a semifinal at BLAST Open Porto played without mezii.
HLTV lists mezii back alongside apEX, ropz, ZywOo and flameZ for the StarSeries opener. jL is confirmed to stand in for apEX later at PGL Masters Bucharest while the IGL becomes a father for the first time, so the window with the full five is short. Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut remains the best individual player in Barcelona by a distance, carrying a 1.27 rating and 0.81 KPR across the last three months.
Their opener against magic should be routine, but the European qualifier is nastier than 26 suggests. magic beat FaZe 2–1 at FISSURE Playground 3, grinding out long overtime maps on Ancient and Cache, then handled PARIVISION 2–0 before finishing 7th–8th. A series win would be a genuine shock. A map is easy to picture.
FURIA Look Overpriced at 4.33
FURIA are the hardest team here to value. The ceiling is not in question: a grand final at the IEM Cologne Major, fourth at the Esports World Cup, fifth in HLTV’s ranking. The recent evidence is much weaker. They went 5th–6th at BLAST Open Porto after losses to Spirit and Vitality, then repeated that at FISSURE Playground 3, where wins over GamerLegion and PARIVISION were followed by 0–2 defeats to Legacy and G2. Their own Dust2 pick against G2 ended 13–3.
They have played more Counter-Strike than any other Tier 1 roster this stretch and now have days to get from China to Spain. The roster clearly wants one more trophy for Gabriel ‘FalleN’ Toledo, and this eight-team field is a lower barrier than most, but MIBR played better in Suzhou. MIBR reached the semifinals there, beating The MongolZ, 9z and Alliance before a 2–1 loss to Legacy, all with Martín ‘tomaszin’ Corna having barely a week of practice with his new teammates. There is no head-to-head between the current cores. FURIA have the stronger roster and far more Tier 1 proof, so we still lean them to advance, but a Brazilian derby against a side fresh off a top-four LAN is not the formality the bracket seed implies. At 4.33 outright, FURIA sit almost level with MOUZ despite worse form, harder travel and a likely upper-bracket date with Vitality immediately after the opener.
NAVI Are the Team Under Real Pressure
No roster in Barcelona needs a result more than Natus Vincere. Their season has been dire, and at number 13 in live VRS projections they risk entering the PGL Singapore Major at an early stage with very few wins to fall back on. After the loss to Legacy at EWC 2026, coach Andrii ‘B1ad3’ Horodenskyi kept it simple.
“For now, we just keep playing. We will keep playing the season, because we built a lot of material in bootcamp, and I think we have a good opportunity to start the season. The first three tournaments, let’s see how it goes and what it will bring us.”
This is that third tournament. Anything other than a positive run turns roster changes into an immediate conversation rather than a post-Singapore one. Aurora Gaming at 8 are the best dark horse in the field and get NAVI in the opening round, which is exactly the kind of match that makes round one less predictable than the prices look. Winning the whole thing from that side of the draw is another matter.
Our Pick for StarSeries Season 20
MOUZ at 4.00 is our outright call. Vitality have the higher proven ceiling, mezii is back, ZywOo is playing at an elite level, and if you only care about which five players are capable of the best Counter-Strike, take them at 2.8 and sleep fine. The bracket is what separates them for us. MOUZ get NRG, then the NAVI/Aurora half. Vitality should beat magic, then run into FURIA or an increasingly awkward MIBR. Add the recent 2–0 over Vitality in Porto and two consecutive grand finals, and the extra return at 4.00 versus 2.8 is too big to ignore for two teams this close on current form.
Projected final: MOUZ vs Vitality, with MOUZ narrowly favoured to leave Barcelona with the trophy. FURIA stay the obvious third contender and we would pass at 4.33.
