Bucharest gets another week of high-stakes Counter-Strike. From October 24 to 31, 2026, the PGL Studio hosts 16 teams fighting over a $1,250,000 prize pool, and the way that money is split makes this one of the more interesting payout structures on the calendar.
Half Prize Money, Half Club Reward
The headline figure of $1,250,000 is actually two identical pools stacked on top of each other. $625,000 is classic prize money distributed by placement, and another $625,000 goes out as club reward, mirroring the same placement structure exactly. So the champion walks away with $225,000 in prize money plus $225,000 in club reward, which is $450,000 total for a single trophy lift.
| Placement | Prize Money | Club Reward | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | $225,000 | $225,000 | $450,000 |
| 2nd | $100,000 | $100,000 | $200,000 |
| 3rd | $68,750 | $68,750 | $137,500 |
| 4th | $43,750 | $43,750 | $87,500 |
| 5th-8th | $25,000 | $25,000 | $50,000 |
| 9th-11th | $15,625 | $15,625 | $31,250 |
| 12th-14th | $9,375 | $9,375 | $18,750 |
| 15th-16th | $6,250 | $6,250 | $12,500 |
| Total | $625,000 | $625,000 | $1,250,000 |
The drop-off between first and second is brutal. Losing the Bo5 grand final costs a team $250,000 in combined earnings, more than the entire payout for finishing anywhere from 3rd to 16th in most cases. Even the two teams that go home bottom of the Swiss stage still collect $12,500 combined, which at least covers the trip.
Belgrade Became Bucharest, Again
This event was never supposed to happen in Romania. PGL had it booked as a Belgrade stop running October 22 to November 1, 2026, then moved the whole thing to its own studios in Bucharest and renamed it PGL Masters Bucharest. If that sounds familiar, it should. PGL did exactly the same thing with the 2025 Belgrade event, which also ended up in the Bucharest studio. The relocation trimmed the schedule too, with the new window set at October 24 to 31 instead of the original eleven-day run.
We think the shorter calendar actually helps. Eight days, 16 teams, no filler.
Who Is Coming to Bucharest
Twelve of the 16 slots go to the top of the Global VRS, with invites handed out based on the July 6 ranking. Seeding, though, uses the October 5 update, so a team that slides in the three months between those two dates still gets its spot but can land in a far nastier opening bracket.
The confirmed attendee list already includes Spirit, Vitality, MOUZ, G2, FURIA, Natus Vincere, The MongolZ and Liquid. That is most of the current tier-one picture in one studio.
The Four Qualifier Spots
Three of the remaining tickets run through regional qualifiers in the Americas and Europe, and the fourth comes out of Asia. Each of South America, North America and Europe hosts two open qualifiers. The top two finishers from each open bracket move into a closed qualifier, where four VRS-invited teams are waiting for them. Winner of each closed qualifier books the flight. The final slot comes from the Asia qualifier, which is split into sub-regions.
All of it is played online. Open qualifiers run September 3 to 6, closed qualifiers follow on September 9 to 13.
| Stage | Dates | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Open qualifiers | September 3-6, 2026 | Online, South America / North America / Europe |
| Closed qualifiers | September 9-13, 2026 | Top 2 from each open bracket + 4 VRS invites |

Format: No Bo1 Lottery
The group stage is a 16-team Swiss where every single match is a best-of-three. No opening Bo1 coinflips, which is a real mercy for the teams seeded into early matchups against the top four. Eight teams survive the Swiss and move into a single-elimination playoff bracket, also Bo3, where one loss ends the tournament. The two finalists meet in a Bo5 grand final.
Full Bo3 Swiss plus single-elim playoffs is a format that rewards map pool depth over a hot pistol round. Teams with three or four comfortable picks have a structural edge here, and anyone riding a one-map specialty is going to get found out by round three.
Betting Angles Worth Watching
The payout curve shapes behaviour more than people admit. With $450,000 waiting for the winner and $200,000 for second, the incentive to grind out a deep playoff run is enormous, and teams already locked into the 5th-8th bracket have very little to play for financially. Watch for the Swiss stage matches where both sides are 2-1 and still fighting for the 3-1 advance slot. Those are usually the sharpest Counter-Strike of the week.

What to Expect
Sixteen teams, eight days, Bo3s from the opening whistle and a $450,000 cheque at the end of it. Spirit, Vitality and MOUZ will be the names on most short lists, but the Swiss format with full Bo3s has a habit of producing one qualifier team that refuses to go home quietly. Mark October 24 on the calendar.
