Sean Dyche returns as Nottingham Forest manager on deal to 2027
Nottingham Forest have appointed former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche as their new manager. The 54-year-old has signed a contract running until the summer of 2027 and becomes Forest’s third permanent boss this season.
Dyche steps in after Ange Postecoglou was dismissed following Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea. Postecoglou lasted 39 days in the job and was sacked about 17 minutes after that match; he failed to win any of his eight games in charge, drawing two and losing six.
Forest sacked Nuno Espirito Santo just three matches into the campaign and the club sit 18th in the Premier League with one win from eight games.
Dyche’s first match in charge will be the Europa League tie at home to Porto on Thursday, 23 October 2025. He will then take his side to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday, 26 October 2025.
The search for a new manager was led by the club’s global head of football Edu Gaspar and global technical director George Syrianos. Former Italy and Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini held talks with Forest and the club had also admired Marco Silva, the Fulham boss.
“A respected and experienced Premier League manager, Dyche brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the club through its next chapter,” the club said.
“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche also has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters.
“His appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across both domestic and European competitions.”
Dyche will bring in familiar faces to his coaching team. Ian Woan and Steven Stone, both former Forest players, are set to join his backroom staff.
Fans and the club will now turn their attention to a testing run of fixtures in Europe and the league as Dyche begins the task of steadying a turbulent campaign.
