The NBA released its Last Two Minute report for Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, and the verdict lands squarely in New York‘s favor.
The report covered all late-game developments from New York‘s 107-106 win over San Antonio on Wednesday — a victory that completed a 29-point comeback and pushed the Knicks to a 3-1 series lead. Central to the review was the disputed defensive sequence involving OG Anunoby and De’Aaron Fox with roughly 12 seconds remaining.
Fox attempted a transition layup with the Spurs leading by one, choosing to attack the rim rather than dribble out the clock. Anunoby blocked the shot cleanly, the Knicks recovered possession, and the sequence ended with the putback that sealed one of the more dramatic finishes in recent Finals memory. A portion of observers argued Anunoby fouled Fox on the play. The NBA‘s review disagreed.
“Anunoby (NYK) makes a legal attempt to block Fox’s (SAS) shot and dislodges the ball from his control before making incidental arm contact,” the report stated.
The on-court decision not to call a foul was confirmed correct.
The report did flag two officiating errors in the final stretch. The first came at approximately 1:02 remaining, when Stephon Castle was called out of bounds on a drive. The NBA determined that ruling was wrong — Josh Hart made illegal contact with Castle and should have been assessed a foul.
“Hart (NYK) impedes Castle (SAS) on his drive as Castle is incorrectly called for committing an out-of-bounds violation,” the report stated.
The second missed call went against the Knicks: Victor Wembanyama was not cited for a defensive three-second violation earlier in the final minutes, a call that should have been made.
Across the three reviewed plays, two were called incorrectly — one error against each team. The most consequential call, the Anunoby block on Fox, was upheld. On balance, the report offers no credible basis to dispute the outcome. The Knicks lead the 2026 NBA Finals 3-1, with San Antonio set to host Game 5 on Saturday.
