Championship windows close fast in the NBA, and the Denver Nuggets know theirs is ticking. Nikola Jokic is edging toward the back half of his prime, and the roster around him needs to maximize every remaining year. Jamal Murray has historically been the swing factor in how far Denver goes, and for the 2026-27 season, the projections favor Mile High City.
Breaking Down Jamal Murray’s 2026-27 Stat Projections With The Nuggets
Shot selection was a core issue for Denver during the 2025-26 campaign. The Nuggets attempted just 87.8 field goals per game, ranking 26th in the league. They still shot 39.6% from three and 49.6% from the field, first and second respectively, which signals a team that needs more volume, not more accuracy.
Murray is the piece meant to fix that. His Basketball Reference Per 36 Minutes Projections for 2026-27 read as follows:

Converted to per-game figures at his typical 35.4 minutes, the numbers suggest a strong bounce-back season for the Denver guard.
His scoring output tells an interesting story. Murray will likely cede some shot volume because Denver added DeMar DeRozan, a proven bucket-getter acquired from the Sacramento Kings. The drop isn’t severe. From a career-high 25.4 points on 18.1 attempts, Murray projects to settle at 23.7 points on 17.5 shots. Trading a slight dip in volume for a career 21.1-point scorer is a fair exchange for the Nuggets.
The defensive metrics show upward movement too. Murray projects for 4.3 rebounds and 0.5 blocks, both the second-highest marks of his career. His ability to jump passing lanes returns as well, with steals climbing back to 1.1 per game.
Efficiency stays elite. Murray is projected to hit 42.1% from three, the third-best mark of his career, and 47.9% from the field, also third-best. That kind of shooting keeps Denver near the top of the league’s three-point rankings.
The Brightest Spot For Jamal Murray and the Nuggets
Ball movement decides whether a roster with multiple scorers actually functions. Jokic can’t be the only Nugget initiating offense; that predictability makes Denver easier to scheme against. Murray’s projected playmaking numbers change that equation.
A projected 6.7 assists would rank as the second-highest mark of his career, just below his 7.1-assist 2025-26 season. Beating that career high isn’t out of reach if DeRozan, Jokic, Aaron Gordon, Cam Johnson, and Christian Braun stay efficient off his passes.
This category carries extra weight for Denver because backup point guard Tyus Jones just wrapped a season averaging only 2.4 assists. Jones has shown he can run an offense, evidenced by his 7.3-assist year with the 2023-24 Washington Wizards, but adjusting to a new system takes time. Denver needs Murray to carry the playmaking load while Jones settles in, much like other backcourts around the league, including the one anchoring the Philadelphia 76ers‘ rebuild around a young guard.
Murray’s Recurring Statistical Dark Spot
High-usage scoring point guards carry a common flaw: turnovers. Murray hasn’t shaken this in nine seasons. The issue followed him even during his All-NBA Third Team run in 2025-26, and nothing in the projection suggests it disappears.
The model projects 2.3 turnovers per game for Murray, a career-high and well above the league average of 1.7 for point guards. That would mark the third time in nine seasons he sets a personal worst in this category. Heavy usage explains part of it. Murray often serves as Denver’s lone offensive engine when Jokic sits, and that role invites mistakes. A smoother transition for Tyus Jones could ease that burden and protect Denver’s title hopes.
The bigger question remains whether Murray returns to All-NBA form by season’s end. That outcome hinges on tightening his ball security while newer contenders continue closing the gap on Denver.
