Brunson Extends Star Turn With Emmys Cameo and SNL Hosting Slot

Jalen Brunson’s summer of fame shows no signs of slowing down. Three months after claiming NBA Finals MVP honors while leading the New York Knicks to their first title in 53 years, the point guard is popping up in places far removed from the hardwood.

Brunson appeared in a prerecorded skit to open the 78th Emmys alongside host Mariska Hargitay, the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star. The Emmys recognize the year’s top television programming, and Brunson and Hargitay have grown into an unlikely pairing tied to the Knicks’ championship run.

Hargitay is a longtime Knicks fan who sat courtside throughout the title push. Her reaction to New York’s 29-point comeback in Game 4 of the Finals went viral when she stood on the court in shock and embraced OG Anunoby. She later rode on Brunson’s float during the championship parade.

This time, Brunson returned the favor for Hargitay’s milestone as the first woman to host the Emmys in 15 years. In the skit, Brunson steams his blue Knicks jersey while Hargitay preps a dress for the broadcast. She asks him if he’s ever felt like millions of eyes were on him with everything riding on one night. Brunson, with the Finals logo visible on his jersey, turns to the camera with a blank stare and simply says, “Seriously?”

Hargitay then notes that unlike Brunson, she has no one to “tap it in” for her, a nod to Anunoby’s series-clinching tip-in during that historic comeback. She exits the scene claiming she has no time to “steam outfits” with him. She slips in one more reference later, joking about catching “another Brunson nail the shot” while introducing “Abbott Elementary” star and multiple Emmy winner Quinta Brunson.

More Screen Time Ahead for Brunson

The crossover between Brunson and Hargitay isn’t finished. She confirmed his appearance on “Law & Order: SVU” is “in the works” and “definitely happening.”

Television is becoming a regular stop for the Knicks guard. Brunson is set to host the Season 52 premiere of “Saturday Night Live” on Sept. 26, giving him a platform to display comedic range beyond postgame interviews. The gig places him alongside Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and LeBron James as the only NBA players to host the show.

WWE Storylines and a Children’s Book

Brunson’s résumé outside basketball keeps expanding. He’s made multiple WWE appearances, including one in July, and has been woven into storylines involving Roman Reigns, a name he’s referenced during Knicks press conferences. He’s also factored into an arc alongside Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton.

The three-time All-Star has one more project on deck. Brunson will release a children’s book titled “Jalen Plays It All” in November, adding another layer to a busy offseason built on the back of a championship run that changed his profile for good.
