Vincent Kompany extends Bayern Munich stay until June 2029
Vincent Kompany has signed a two-year contract extension with Bayern Munich, keeping him at the club until June 2029.
The 39-year-old Belgian took charge of Bayern in May 2024. His original deal was due to expire in summer 2027.
In his first season Kompany led Bayern to the Bundesliga title and has won 49 of his 67 games in charge across all competitions.
“I’m grateful, honoured and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one,” Kompany said. “It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far.
“We’ve started on a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate much more success.”
Bayern opened the 2025-26 campaign by winning the German Super Cup and sit five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
“The contract extension with Vincent Kompany is a strong vote of confidence from the club after the great job he’s done up to now, as well as a clear sign for continuity and stability at Bayern,” club president Herbert Hainer said. “Vincent is held in high regard by the players, the club management and the fans. We’re happy about the early extension of our cooperation.”
Kompany made his name during a trophy-laden playing career at Manchester City, captaining the side, making 360 appearances and winning four Premier League titles.
He began coaching as a player-manager at boyhood club Anderlecht in 2019 and took the role full time in 2020 after retiring. He led Anderlecht to two league titles before moving to England to manage Burnley in 2022.
At Turf Moor he won the Championship in his first season. The following Premier League campaign ended with Burnley 19th and relegated.
With this extension Bayern have signalled a desire for stability as Kompany builds on a successful first year in Munich.
