Spain international Marc Cucurella followed through on a pre-tournament vow, revealing a tattoo of coach Luis de la Fuente on his arm after Spain claimed the World Cup title.

The left-back had pledged at the start of the summer to get the coach’s face tattooed if Spain won the tournament. They did, beating Argentina 1-0 on July 19th in the New Jersey final. Cucurella posted a photo of the new ink on social media with the caption “promise kept”.

The tattoo depicts De la Fuente in a suit, holding the World Cup trophy. It marks Spain’s second world title, following their first triumph in South Africa in 2010.

“Historic,” wrote Spain teammate Mikel Merino on Cucurella’s Instagram post. Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz added it was “awesome.”

Cucurella, 28, made the move to Real Madrid from Chelsea ahead of Spain’s opening World Cup fixture, a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde that De la Fuente credited as fuel for the team’s run to the title.

The 65-year-old coach took charge after succeeding Luis Enrique in 2022 and has since collected Euro 2024 and the 2023 Nations League with La Roja, building one of the most decorated short tenures in Spanish football history. Keep up with all Spain and World Cup coverage at TipsGG.
