Carlo Ancelotti Signs Four-Year Brazil Extension, Commits to 2030 World Cup Cycle

15.05.2026, 10:25

The CBF confirmed on Thursday that Carlo Ancelotti has extended his contract as head coach of the Brazilian national team for another four years, keeping him in charge through the 2030 World Cup. The announcement lands less than a month before the 2026 World Cup kicks off, and approximately one year after the Italian manager first took the job in May 2025.

“A year ago, I arrived in Brazil and realised what football means to this country. We are working to bring the national team back to the top of the world, but both the CBF and I want more. We are very happy to announce that we will continue together until the 2030 World Cup.” — Carlo Ancelotti

Across 10 matches at the helm, Ancelotti has posted five wins, two draws, and three losses, with Brazil scoring 18 goals and conceding eight. The numbers reflect a team still finding its rhythm under a new system, with a full World Cup qualifying and tournament cycle ahead to sharpen it.

CBF president Samir Xaud framed the renewal as a structural commitment rather than a routine contract update.

“This renewal is another strong step in our commitment to provide the national team with an increasingly strong, modern, and competitive structure. We are working to keep Brazil at the highest level.” — Samir Xaud, CBF President

Xaud described the day as “historic”, stressing that retaining the full coaching staff is a deliberate strategic decision for the long-term direction of Brazilian football. The new deal locks in continuity from the 2026 tournament all the way through to the next cycle, giving Ancelotti the runway to build a squad identity across two World Cup campaigns.
