Manchester United Defender Stays Loyal to England
Manchester United defender Ayden Heaven has decided against switching his international allegiance from England to Ghana for next summer’s World Cup.
The 19-year-old, born in London, qualifies for Ghana through a grandparent, and the Ghana FA has been closely monitoring his progress. However, sources confirm that Heaven, who joined United from Arsenal in February after a single appearance for the Gunners, remains committed to representing England at the senior level. He has already featured for England across various youth teams.
Heaven’s recent performances have been impressive. After recovering from an ankle injury sustained while playing for England’s Under-20s against Switzerland in October, he has become a key figure in United’s defense. He made two substitute appearances in the Premier League earlier this season before earning a start against West Ham on 4 December in a three-man backline. Though he was booked early and substituted at half-time, Heaven has since started four consecutive matches, showing marked improvement in each.
His standout performances include a strong showing in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on 21 December and a man-of-the-match display in the 1-0 victory over Newcastle on Friday, where United secured only their second clean sheet of the season.
Manager Ruben Amorim praised Heaven, saying: “I am really pleased with Ayden. You can feel that he is improving every game. He is young, but you can feel that he has a good game, slows the thinking and improves during the game. He trained really well and, if he continues to play like that, it is going to be really hard to take his place.”
With Ghana drawn in the same World Cup group as England, Croatia, and Panama, Heaven’s decision adds an intriguing layer to the upcoming tournament. For now, his focus remains on solidifying his place in United’s defense and earning a spot in England’s senior squad.
