Tottenham Demands Police Action After Racist Abuse Against Danso Following Brighton Draw
Tottenham Hotspur condemned racist abuse directed at defender Kevin Danso on social media following his defensive error in the club’s 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. The incident occurred during the Premier League’s “No Room For Racism” weekend, adding urgency to the club’s response.
The 27-year-old Austrian was dispossessed in the dying minutes, allowing Georginio Rutter to level the match and deny Spurs a vital three points. The dropped points leave Tottenham in 18th place, still searching for their first league win in 2026 with five matches remaining.
Spurs Issue Uncompromising Statement
“Kevin Danso has been, and continues to be, subject to significant and abhorrent racist abuse on social media,” Tottenham stated. “We have heard and seen vile, dehumanising racism. Behaviour that is without doubt a criminal offence. It will not be tolerated.”
The club reported all identified content to London’s Metropolitan Police, relevant authorities, and social media platforms. Spurs committed to pursuing “the strongest possible action against each and every person we identify.”
Club Backs Player Unconditionally
Tottenham emphasised that form or league position cannot justify racist abuse. “Kevin has our complete and unconditional support as a player and as a person. No one at this club will ever stand alone in the face of this,” the statement read.
Danso responded via Instagram, acknowledging the abuse while maintaining perspective. “The racist abuse has no place in this game or anywhere. But it doesn’t define me, and it won’t distract me from what is important. I know who I am, what I stand for, and why I play,” he said. “Now it’s about staying focused, working harder, and coming back stronger for the next games.”
