“This System Doesn't Make Sense”: TenZ and the Valorant Community React to the Replay System

05.09.2025, 13:22

The Valorant community has been asking for it since day one. Now, five years after the game’s launch, Riot Games has finally rolled out a replay system. But the long-anticipated feature has landed with a thud rather than a bang — at least according to some of the game’s biggest names.

What is the Replay System in Valorant?

In theory, the new replay system should be a game-changer. Players can now revisit past matches, review every round, and dissect each decision. The feature offers controls to pause, rewind, and change camera angles — seemingly everything needed for deep gameplay analysis.

But there’s a catch. Or rather, several.

Why the Community Isn’t Impressed

Brazilian streamer Guilherme “Tixinhadois” Cheida was one of the first to get his hands on the feature. His summary of the replay system sounded promising — until he detailed its limitations:

  • Only your own replays — no access to friends’ matches, pro games, or custom lobbies.
  • No VCT or tournament VODs — Riot reportedly has no plans to support pro-level replay access.
  • Only Ranked and Premier matches are available for review.

“You can pause, rewind, review all kills in a match, all angles, pixels, etc., which is very cool,” he noted. But the enthusiasm ends there for many.

TenZ Weighs In — And He’s Not Holding Back

Sentinels’ TenZ — one of Valorant’s most recognized figures — didn’t sugarcoat his disappointment. Reacting to the early access features, he questioned Riot’s understanding of what the community really wants.

“If the replay system does not allow viewing other players’ games, what is the point of releasing it? It will be impossible to analyze high-level play in order to really learn, and to watch VOD recordings as a team. Is it impossible to even create a frag movie without sharing an account? It seems that they are listening, but they don’t understand what the community wants.”

His words cut to the heart of the issue: Valorant’s competitive scene thrives on strategy, content creation, and collaborative review. A locked-down replay system disrupts all of that.

When Is It Rolling Out?

The replay system will officially release with patch 11.06, launching on September 16 in North America, and rolling out globally the following morning. While it marks a major technical milestone, the community’s hopes for something truly revolutionary may have to wait.

Looking Ahead

For now, the replay system in Valorant feels like a half-step forward — a useful tool limited by self-imposed restrictions. Until Riot opens the door to broader use cases like pro match reviews, shared content, or custom lobby analysis, many in the scene may continue to ask: Did they really understand what we were asking for?
