Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will miss the upcoming NBA All-Star Game due to right patellofemoral pain syndrome. Commonly referred to as runner’s knee, the injury has already kept the veteran guard out of three consecutive matchups. Head coach Steve Kerr confirmed the 12-time All-Star selection will remain sidelined through Wednesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.
The timing of the injury grants Curry a nearly three-week window to recover before the Warriors resume their schedule. Kerr indicated the recovery process is fluid.
“He’s doing well. That’s the hope. It’s really kind of a day-to-day thing, so it’s hard to predict for sure whether he’ll be playing that first game after the break, but that’s definitely the hope.”
Curry, currently age 37, maintains an elite production level with averages of 27.2 points and 4.8 assists while hitting 39.1% of his attempts from deep. Golden State faces a difficult offensive stretch as they are also without Jimmy Butler, who is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.
New All-Star Format and Replacement
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is tasked with naming a replacement for Curry on the USA Stripes roster. This year features a revised USA vs. World format consisting of three teams: USA Stripes, USA Stars, and the World Team. The event involves a round-robin tournament of four 12-minute games, culminating in a championship match between the two top-seeded squads based on record or point differential.
75th NBA All-Star Weekend Schedule
The 75th NBA All-Star Game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m. Eastern. This earlier start time accommodates coverage of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. Fans can follow the logic of the three-day event via NBC and Peacock:
- Friday, Feb. 13: Rising Stars Challenge
- Saturday, Feb. 14: All-Star Saturday Night (3-Point and Dunk Contests)
- Sunday, Feb. 15: The All-Star Game
