Salah Out for Season After Hamstring Injury, Egypt Director Confirms
Mohamed Salah will not play another match for Liverpool this season after sustaining a hamstring tear, according to Ibrahim Hassan, Egypt national team director. The injury occurred during Crystal Palace‘s 3-1 Premier League defeat on Saturday, with the 33-year-old Egyptian winger departing the field in the 60th minute.
Hassan disclosed to Reuters that Salah requires four weeks of treatment for the hamstring tear. Liverpool has not released an official statement on his condition, but the Egypt director’s assessment effectively ends the winger’s campaign.
This injury marks a bitter conclusion to Salah‘s nine seasons at Liverpool. The club previously announced his departure at season’s end, and his exit now arrives through medical necessity rather than the final whistle he might have anticipated. Salah applauded supporters as he exited the pitch at Selhurst Park.
Remaining Fixtures Without Salah
Liverpool faces a demanding final stretch. The Reds visit Manchester United on May 3, host Chelsea on May 9, travel to Villa on May 17, and finish at home against Brentford on May 24. Salah will miss all four contests.
The winger departs having recorded 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions this term. His departure strips Liverpool of a critical offensive weapon during their final push.
World Cup Hopes Intact
Hassan stated that Salah will be available for Egypt’s 2026 World Cup campaign. The tournament begins June 11 in North America, providing ample recovery time beyond the standard four-week treatment window. Salah faces Group G opponents Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
The injury recalls the 2018 World Cup disaster when Salah suffered a shoulder injury in Real Madrid‘s Champions League final victory. Despite scoring twice in two group matches, Egypt crashed out at the preliminary stage in Russia. Salah remains determined to avoid repetition.
