Reshuffle begins: the first changes in Dota teams after TI

22.10.2021, 08:07

Reshuffles traditionally follow each The International. Of course, The International 10 will be no exception. Teams coming to TI talk to each other, talk to managers and coaches. Hunting players begins in the middle of the tournament when some teams are already eliminated. Teams that don’t perform as well as they should already think about roster changes, and players start talking to other players of another teams who have suffered the same fate.

At this TI it was a little different, because COVID restrictions prevented players from communicating with each other, so we find out about all the decisions from players’ tweets.

Old-timers and those players who did not participate in TI are also looking for teams. Inspired by the performance of the champions, young players message to established players in the Steam chat in the game.

Disbands

Thunder Predator

The team that finished at the top 6 of the ONE Esports Singapore Major performed terribly at TI. Even those who underestimated the odds for South American teams would not thought Thunder Predator could win a single map in the group stage at all. Where are the jolly Peruvian guys who can mess up their opponents with their aggressive playstyle? After the end of the group stage, the organization immediately announced the disbanding of the entire team.

Thunder Predator did not sit still for long. They immediately found replacements for their players. The organization signed a NoPing Esports team that had been struggling in the SA region at the end of the season.

Thunder Predator roster

  • Crhistian “Angel” Savina
  • Gonzalo “Darkmago” Herrera
  • Oscar “Oscar” David Chavez
  • Farith “Matthew” Puente
  • Jose “Pandaboo” Leonardo Padilla Hernandez

SG Esports

SG Esports, the Brazilian organization, also said goodbye to their Dota 2 squad, which had absolutely nothing to show at TI10. The Brazilians were unable to make the playoffs, so the organization decided to disband the entire squad.

The Coaches

Some teams lost their coaches. Obviously, teams competing in TI often hire a coach for one tournament. If the team played without a coach before, the desire to hire one is understandable. A coach is always support, fresh ideas, and an outside perspective on the game.

Two teams from North America have hired coaches at TI. Quincy Crew turned to Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann for help, and Team Undying was coached by Kim “Febby” Yong-min. Both coaches already left their teams. KheZu already announced a team search. Maurice noted that he is ready to play not only offlane, but also the fifth position. The German will also consider coaching offers.

Febby also announced a team search as a 4th or 5th position player. Kim stated that he is ready to play in any region.

Fnatic

The Southeast Asian team wasn’t satisfied with the results at TI10 either. There, Fnatic finished in 9th-12th place, losing to Team Spirit in the lower bracket.  Yang “Deth” Wu Heng and Ng Kee “ÑhҮuan” Chyuan already left the team. The current Fnatic roster looks like this:

  • Marc “Raven” Polo Luis Fausto
  • Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong
  • Djardel “Dj” Mampusti

Apparently the team is happy with the fact that Dj is still playing at the fifth position, although he is a very talented player at the fourth position. Perhaps Fnatic should switch up their supports positions for a better result. Raven is still as good carry as ever. Marco is stable, confident, and ready to win.

Alliance

The Swedish team was already cracking at the seams long before TI. They took 9-12th place and after that they admitted that it’s already a very high result for them. Artsion “fng” Barshak admitted that they had an awful CW win rate. In official games, the team also felt abysmal. Just think of Alliacne’s performance at the ONE Esports Singapore Major or the WePlay Animajor.

As a result, fng and midline player Linus “Limmp” Blomdin left the team. The community did not agree with this decision. Many Reddit users as well as influencers on Twitter pointed out that Alliance should have rather kicked out the other three players. And s4 is long overdue to think about coaching. Alliance’s roster now looks like this:

  • Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov
  • Gustav “s4” Magnusson
  • Simon “Handskeen” Haag

Artsiom already announced that he is looking for a team

Rumors of other reshuffles

Virtus.Pro

Rumors started to appear on the Internet that the captain of VP Vitalie “Save-” Melnic and Dmitriy “DM” Dorokhin may leave the team. Virtus.Pro CEO Sergey Glamazda responded in a tweet.

translation of Glamazda’s statement

Recently, there have been many rumors about the future of the Dota 2 roster. I admit the possibility of changes based on personal ambitions of players and goals of Virtus Pro but no decisions have been made at the moment.

It turns out that VP are really thinking about replacements, but have not yet decided if they are needed. Taking the Top-6 at such a prestigious tournament as The International is not always a reason to make roster changes in the team. Maybe VP should think about replacing the coach.

OG

After Sebastian “Ceb” Debs announced the end of his career as a professional player, it became clear that OG would not only need an offlaner, but also a team captain. Rumors began to surface online that the team’s head coach at TI, Mikhail “Misha” Agatov, would be the new OG player and captain. How the players will distribute the roles in the team – still unknown.

However, attentive fans have already noticed that Sumail is practicing on the mid lane again. Perhaps the end of Seb’s career is not the last change in the OG that we may see.

Rest assured, this is not the last news about reshuffles before the season starts.
