In a move few saw coming, Algerian international Ramiz Zerrouki has rejoined FC Twente on a one-year loan from Feyenoord, both clubs confirmed on Wednesday.
Zerrouki, 27, made 108 appearances for Twente between 2019 and 2023 before transferring to Feyenoord. However, his time in Rotterdam was marked by limited influence—averaging just 54 minutes per game across 65 appearances over two seasons. Now, he’s back where it all started, seeking consistency and regular minutes ahead of a fresh Eredivisie campaign.
“I left here two years ago, so you don’t expect to be back now. Sometimes things just happen that way,” Zerrouki told FC Twente’s official site. “FC Twente was specifically looking for a player like me. From the very first moment, I had a good, familiar feeling. That’s why I chose this option.”
Originally signed to Twente’s academy from Ajax in 2016, Zerrouki’s return to Enschede marks a full-circle moment for the midfielder. “I’m going to play the home games at the Grolsch Veste again—who would have thought? I’m really looking forward to it,” he added.
Twente, fresh off a strong campaign and aiming to maintain their place among Eredivisie’s elite, will hope Zerrouki’s return provides midfield stability and tactical familiarity. With his defensive awareness, distribution range, and chemistry with the squad, he fits seamlessly into Twente’s system under the guidance of coach Joseph Oosting and sporting director Jan Streuer.
FC Twente kick off their Eredivisie season on Sunday, August 10th, with an away fixture against PEC Zwolle—an early test for Zerrouki to prove his second spell can be as impactful as his first.
