Police Launch Criminal Investigations After Pitch Invasion at Dynamo Dresden vs Hertha Berlin
Dresden police have initiated criminal investigations following a German second-tier match between Dynamo Dresden and Hertha Berlin in which supporters from both clubs stormed the pitch.
Unrest erupted early in Saturday’s fixture as pyrotechnics were repeatedly deployed from both home and away supporter sections. The escalation forced police to intervene, separate the groups, and secure the area. After a 20-minute delay, officials allowed play to resume.
Dresden police opened more than a dozen investigations covering breach of the peace, dangerous bodily harm, property damage, insult, and ticket fraud stemming from the incident.
Club Response and Match Outcome
Dynamo Dresden expressed deep regret over the scenes at Rudolf Harbig Stadion. Finance director Stephan Zimmermann issued an apology to uninvolved spectators, stating:
Our home games are known for their unique atmosphere. Images like those we saw tonight are unacceptable and massively damage not only our club, but football as a whole in Germany.
Hertha Berlin secured a 1-0 victory through Marten Winkler‘s 80th-minute goal. The win positions the capital side in sixth place in Bundesliga 2, while Dynamo Dresden remain 15th in the standings.
