Nuno Espirito Santo is set to be dismissed as West Ham head coach following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. West Ham‘s 14-year stay in the top flight ended on Sunday, despite Nuno‘s side defeating Leeds United 3-0 at the London Stadium.

The victory proved futile. Tottenham‘s 1-0 win over Everton confirmed the Spurs’ survival at West Ham‘s expense, sealing the Hammers’ fate regardless of their own result.
Nuno has been summoned for talks by the club, with the expectation he will leave his position. He was appointed West Ham boss at the end of September, following Graham Potter‘s sacking just five matches into the season. The 52-year-old signed a three-year contract at the London Stadium, though it contained a clause enabling the club to sack him without compensation in the event of relegation.
Across Nuno‘s 33 Premier League matches in charge, West Ham won nine, drew nine, and lost 15. Their final tally of 39 points is the highest recorded by a relegated side since 2011.
After the final whistle on Sunday, Nuno declined to address his own future directly.
“If you ask me now about the past and the future, this is not the day. Today is to understand the moment of sadness for our fans, of ourselves, of the club. Our attention was all on achieving the mission that we didn’t accomplish. Now we need to go to this period of sadness.”
Pressed further on both his timeline and his desire to stay, Nuno added:
“You keep insisting about that, but my mind is not there. Next press conference, for sure we can speak about that, but today is not about this.”
Compounding the pressure on Nuno, reports from The Athletic indicate he clashed with defender Jean-Clair Todibo following West Ham‘s penultimate match of the season. Todibo was substituted after just 25 minutes as the Hammers trailed 2-0 to Newcastle, with Nuno introducing forward Taty Castellanos in a tactical change. The Frenchman reportedly had a heated exchange with Nuno after the match, telling the manager he would not play for him again. Todibo was left out of the squad entirely for the final-day win over Leeds, with his wife publicly criticising the decision and claiming her husband had been dropped for no particular reason.
