Newcastle United have made a major statement in the summer transfer market, landing 23-year-old German striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a club-record fee of €85 million (£69.1m including add-ons).
The 6ft 6in (1.98m) frontman arrives on Tyneside following a breakout campaign in the Bundesliga, where he netted 17 goals in 33 appearances, including the opener in Stuttgart’s German Cup final triumph. He followed that with a golden boot-winning performance at the U21 European Championship, bagging six goals including one in the final as Germany fell narrowly to England 3-2.

Newcastle will pay £64.8m (€75m) upfront, with an additional £4.3m (€5m) in performance-based add-ons. The transfer eclipses the Magpies’ previous record outlay, reflecting the club’s ambition under Eddie Howe’s leadership and the ownership group’s commitment to building a Champions League-calibre squad.
Woltemade will wear the No. 27 shirt. Speaking to the club’s media team, he said:
“From the first contact, I felt the club truly wanted me. It’s a big step leaving Germany, but I already feel at home. The coach’s vision for my development made this an easy decision.”
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe shared his excitement:
“Nick is the complete modern striker physical presence, excellent technique, and a real eye for goal. He’s proven in a top European league and still has huge upside. We’re thrilled to bring him in.”
The move may also impact the future of Newcastle’s current No. 9, Alexander Isak. Liverpool had a £110m bid for the Swede rejected earlier this month but could be tempted to return with an improved offer following Woltemade’s arrival. A major reshuffle in Newcastle’s attack could be in motion.
