The Josh Giddey sweepstakes might be expanding. While the Golden State Warriors have already been floated as a potential sign-and-trade destination, fresh reports suggest another Western Conference team could be ready to make a move — the Sacramento Kings.
Giddey’s Contract Standoff with Chicago
As a restricted free agent, Giddey has the right to explore offers but remains tethered to the Chicago Bulls’ decision-making. Chicago’s current four-year, $80 million proposal falls short of Giddey’s aim for $30+ million annually — the same range commanded by Jalen Suggs and Immanuel Quickley. So far, the Bulls have shown no willingness to match that figure.
Warriors and Kings Enter the Rumor Mill
NBA insider Jake Fischer previously linked the Warriors to Giddey in a possible sign-and-trade scenario. But according to Allen Stiles of Sactown Sports 1140, the Kings could also be circling.
“From what I’ve heard… they would not be surprised if the Kings were one of those teams. Now, obviously Josh Giddey is a guard and they do have Dennis Schroder on this three-year deal, but everything that the Kings have done to this point this offseason has told us that they are open to everything,”
Stiles said.
Sacramento’s offseason has been, to put it mildly, unpredictable. They’ve added Schroder (three years, $45 million), signed Drew Eubanks, flipped Jonas Valanciunas for Dario Saric, and are reportedly exploring a deal for Russell Westbrook. Add in the earlier DeMar DeRozan acquisition and the shock trade of De’Aaron Fox for Zach LaVine, and the picture only gets murkier.
What Would a Kings-Giddey Deal Look Like?
For a sign-and-trade, Malik Monk is the obvious centerpiece heading to Chicago, but the deal would almost certainly require additional assets. The Kings would be acquiring not just a playmaker, but a long-term point guard to shape their offense around.
Rumor or Leverage Play?
Here’s the strategic layer: could these “new team interest” leaks be more about raising the Bulls’ bid than genuine trade talks? With Chicago holding the leverage, Giddey’s camp may be signaling market pressure to force the front office’s hand. If he takes the qualifying offer, he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, when more franchises will have cap space — a potential high-reward gamble.

The Betting Angle
If you’re tracking the NBA futures market, any credible movement involving Giddey could shift win-total odds for both Sacramento and Golden State. His size, court vision, and passing ability would impact pace, spacing, and team efficiency metrics — all factors worth watching for sharp bettors.
Whether this ends in a blockbuster trade or a strategic standoff, Giddey’s free agency is becoming one of the most intriguing subplots of the offseason.
