Multiple Teams Disband after Franchising Rejections

23.07.2022, 02:22

The 2023 North American Valorant Circuit is about to go through massive changes as Riot’s Partnership Program has moved on to the next stage. As previously reported by Dot Esports, more than 150 organizations have applied for the partnership program, with only some spots allocated for the newly established franchised league next year. Despite many teams expressing their interest, the number of teams being denied is sharply increasing, especially in the North American region.

Several notable North American organizations have failed to move on in the selection process and have been notified by Riot Games of their decision. Teams that have moved on to the next stage cannot inform the public due to nondisclosure agreements signed with Riot Games regarding the selection process unless they are cut from the process.

Some of the notable organizations that are out of the running in Valorant’s franchised league:

  •  Luminosity Gaming
  •  SoaR
  •  Akrew
  •  NYXL
  •  Complexity
  •  Shopify Rebellion
  •  Built By Gamers
  •  Knights

Many organizations have officially announced their departure from the Valorant scene and released their players. Many free agents will be heading into the 2023 Valorant Circuit. Teams like Shopify Rebellion and Built By Gamers have announced their plans to remain in the Valorant scene and keep their players, protesting Riot’s decision.

Riot has not provided concrete plans regarding Valorant’s involvement in tier 2 and tier 3 scenes, which is why we see many organizations exiting Valorant.

The organizations still running for the franchised league will begin to meet with Riot Games to discuss their financial information and stability in Esports.

Riot Games has planned for the North American League to consist of 10 teams, but the number of teams could increase. The final set of teams to be selected by Riot Games will be decided after the conclusion of Champions 2022.
