Enzo Maresca handed one-match touchline ban after Stamford Bridge celebrations

Enzo Maresca has been given a one-match touchline ban after being sent off during Chelsea‘s dramatic late win over Liverpool.

The Italian coach received a second yellow card for leaving the technical area to celebrate Estevao Willian‘s 95th-minute winner at Stamford Bridge. The Football Association confirmed Maresca admitted the charge and accepted the standard penalty.

“It was alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour during the fixture, which led to his dismissal around the 96th minute,” the Football Association said.

Maresca had already been booked earlier in the game for dissent. Alongside the ban he has been fined £8,000.

As a result he will miss Chelsea’s trip to the City Ground to face Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest on Saturday 18 October 2025. Assistant coach Willy Caballero is expected to take charge from the dugout.

This is Maresca’s second touchline suspension since he became a Premier League manager in June 2024. He served his first ban in April 2025 after receiving a third yellow card of the season while celebrating Pedro Neto‘s 93rd-minute winner at Fulham.

Key points

  • Reason: Sent off for leaving the technical area to celebrate a late goal
  • Fine: £8,000
  • Next match absent: Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, 18 October 2025
  • Assistant in charge: Willy Caballero

Despite the off-field sanction, Chelsea keep the result – and Maresca will watch from the stands as his side look to build on the late victory.
