Bayer Leverkusen are moving to bring Al-Ittihad winger Moussa Diaby back to German football during the current transfer window, with talks progressing toward a deal valued at under 30 million euros.

Inter Milan had also been strongly linked with the France international this summer, making Leverkusen’s pursuit a direct competition for his signature. According to Sky Sport Germany, the two parties have not yet reached an agreement, but the direction of negotiations leaves the door open for a transfer below that threshold.

New Leverkusen head coach Carles Martinez Novell, who took charge at the club this summer after his stint at Toulouse, wants Diaby as a fit for his 4-3-3 system. The French winger’s profile suits the wide attacking role that system demands.

This would be a return rather than a debut. Diaby spent four years at Leverkusen between 2019 and 2023, making 172 appearances and contributing 49 goals and 47 assists. Few players leave a club with that level of output at that age.

Born in Paris, Diaby departed for Saudi Arabia two years ago after leaving Aston Villa. His spell in the Middle East with Al-Ittihad produced 11 goals and 31 assists across 71 matches, along with two titles. It was a productive run, and Leverkusen are now betting that familiarity with the club, the league, and the country accelerates any re-integration.
