Barcelona president Joan Laporta has launched a pointed attack on Real Madrid amid their escalating dispute with La Liga president Javier Tebas. He accused Los Blancos of trying to destabilize Spanish football while offering a firm defense of Tebas, a stance that has added fresh fuel to an already heated confrontation.
Speaking as quoted by SPORT ahead of Barcelona‘s clash with Real Betis, Laporta made clear where he stands in the growing feud between Madrid and the league’s governing body.
Laporta Openly Backs Tebas Against Real Madrid
Madrid have taken exception to Tebas’ controversial comparison of Real Madrid TV’s communication methods with Nazi-era propaganda techniques. Laporta did not hold back when asked about the row.
“We are so lucky to have Javier Tebas as La Liga president. He knows how to fight these Real Madrid attacks,” Laporta declared.
“Real Madrid want to blow up everything! They want to blow up La Liga, they want to blow up the Refereeing Committee (CTA)… They’re not happy with the Spanish Federation either. They’re not happy with anything,” he continued.
The Barcelona president suggested Madrid were searching for excuses because they could not accept their current situation, a situation he blamed squarely on the club’s own decisions.
“I care very little about what Real Madrid do, if anything at all. As long as they don’t interfere with Barca.”
Madrid’s Dispute With Tebas Continues
Laporta’s comments arrive as tensions continue to rise over Tebas’ comparison of Real Madrid TV’s communication methods with propaganda techniques associated with Joseph Goebbels. The remark has triggered a fierce response from the Spanish capital.
Madrid have demanded Tebas’ resignation. The La Liga president has defended his remarks, insisting he was criticizing communication methods rather than Madrid supporters or their beliefs. Laporta has now publicly sided with Tebas, adding another layer to an already tense standoff between the two institutions.
Laporta’s Criticism Overlooks Madrid’s Legitimate Concerns
Real Madrid have every right to question refereeing decisions, fixture scheduling and the conduct of football authorities. Clubs raising concerns about governance is a normal part of competitive sport, not an attack on the system itself.
Whether those complaints are justified should be determined through evidence and transparent procedures, not dismissed simply because Madrid are unhappy with certain decisions. Dismissing a rival’s grievances outright rarely settles anything.
Laporta’s suggestion that Madrid are inventing excuses is a lazy argument that does little to improve the institution. A club can struggle on the pitch while still raising legitimate concerns about how the competition is governed. Those two realities are not mutually exclusive.
What makes Laporta’s words particularly interesting is his willingness to defend Tebas despite Barcelona’s own history of disagreements with the La Liga president. Barca and Tebas have clashed repeatedly over financial fair play rulings and player registrations in recent seasons, making this public show of support somewhat unexpected.
It remains to be seen how Madrid respond to these statements from the Barca president and how the wider situation develops. Stay with TipsGG for continued coverage of this unfolding La Liga power struggle.
