IEM Fall RMR: regions, teams and expectations

28.09.2021, 09:50

RMR tournaments begin tomorrow in the four regions. Viewers will be able to enjoy high-quality Counter-Strike. CS:GO analysts and influencers have criticized the RMR system quite a bit, but the regional leagues have become a real outlet for the pandemic. The world is slowly returning to live events and stadiums, which means LAN events will return to the lives of esports community. The only question is: will RMRs remain as we know it now?

RMR tournaments have different prize pools an the money is not too important for the teams. The main incentive for teams to compete in RMR tournaments is the points. These points allow teams to participate in Major events in one or another status: Contenders, Challengers and Legends.

IEM RMR

We have 6 regions in this system. Each region has its own teams competing for championships and RMR points. The RMR tournaments in the CIS, Europe, Oceania, and South America will start tomorrow, September 29, . Viewers will be able to see RMR tournaments in Asia and North America as early as October 5. RMR tournaments have prize pool ranging from $10,000 to $105,000 depending on the region.

Europe

Europe region has 24 teams in its list of competitors. Twelve teams are RMR ranked competitors, and another 12 teams passed the qualifiers.

The full list of EU teams can be found here.

Recent performances at the tournaments have shown that there are many teams in Europe who are ready to compete for the primaries at the RMR. The competition will be very intense. Team Vitality and Heroic have an excellent chance to win. Also Complexity and OG were really good in the last few tournaments. It seems that Ninjas in Pyjamas as well as Astralis didn’t show their full potential. It will be interesting to watch the Danes with Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth, who recently returned to active play.

CIS

CIS RMR is going to be pretty hot. There are four teams that immediately stand out from the rest: Na’Vi, Virtus.Pro, Gambit Esports and Team Spirit.

The full list of CIS teams can be seen here.

Viewers are likely to watch these four in the playoffs with a high probability. Of course, the teams that made it through the qualifiers look an order of magnitude weaker than the main championship contenders. This spoils the viewing experience a bit, but perhaps one of these teams will unexpectedly beat the favorite. VP and Spirit look strong to give a battle even to Na’Vi.

North America

There are clear favorites in the North America region. Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses and EXTREMUM will surely go to the playoffs.

One notable underdog in the tournament is team GODSENT, who were selected through qualifying. The Brazilian team includes such famous players as Epitácio “TACO” de Melo and João “felps” Vasconcellos.

South America

This region will be represented by only 4 teams, so there will not be a group stage.

The full list of SA teams can be found here.

Of all four teams MIBR stands out the most. They recently played at BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2021.

Asia

The Asian RMR will also start right from the playoff stage as there are only 4 teams.

The full list of Asian teams can be found here.

Chinese teams TYLOO and Vici Gaming are the main contenders to win. Though Chinese teams are not known for their strength in international tournaments, they look very strong in their region. Vici distinguished themselves from these two with more stable results.

Oceania

A region combining CS players from two countries – Australia and New Zealand, will also begin with the playoffs.

The full list of Oceania teams can be viewed here.

The main battles will unfold between two teams that have experienced players – the Renegades and ORDER. There is a good chance that the winners of this duel will be the Renegades.
