Galatasaray Hold Talks With Spurs Over Late Mathys Tel Move

Mathys Tel’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is under scrutiny in the final days of the summer window, with Galatasaray the latest club to register concrete interest in the 21-year-old French attacker.

Tel arrived at Spurs on an initial loan from Bayern Munich in February 2025 before the move was made permanent for around £30m four months later. He contributed just four Premier League goals across 31 appearances last season as Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 17th. His form picked up toward the end of the campaign following a managerial change, and he made a positive impression during pre-season. Tel played the full 90 minutes in Spurs’ 3-0 opening-day defeat to Brentford.

Galatasaray Enter the Picture

Turkish outlet Fotospor reports that Galatasaray have held talks with Spurs and that their efforts to sign Tel have intensified in recent days. Earlier this month, Sport Witness had flagged interest from Spanish side Real Betis, who were pursuing a loan arrangement.

Tel is not Galatasaray’s primary target. Eintracht Frankfurt‘s Can Uzun and Crystal Palace‘s Ismaila Sarr rank higher on the Istanbul club’s wishlist. Tel is described as one of the most important alternatives, and any decision from Spurs will hinge on receiving a formal offer.

Spurs’ Inbound Activity Could Determine Tel’s Exit

Tottenham are weighing Tel’s departure against their own recruitment activity. The club has already completed the £85m signing of Savinho and is pursuing Omar Marmoush from Manchester City, as well as Cody Gakpo from Liverpool. If those arrivals are secured before the September 1 deadline, Tel could be allowed to leave.

Tel is under contract in North London until June 2031, so Spurs hold full control of the situation. Whether Galatasaray can table an offer that meets Tottenham’s valuation before the window closes remains the key variable. Follow TipsGG for the latest updates as this story develops.
