FC Utrecht have confirmed that star midfielder Victor Jensen will be sidelined for several months after picking up a serious hamstring injury in their UEFA Europa League qualifier against Zrinjski Mostar.
The 25-year-old Danish international, who had been enjoying a breakout start to the season with eight goals in nine appearances across Eredivisie and European qualifiers, suffered the injury in the first half of the clash with the Bosnian side. Jensen lost control of the ball, appeared to plant his leg awkwardly while attempting to regain possession, and immediately reached for his hamstring in visible discomfort.
From Weeks to Months: The Severity Deepens
Initial medical evaluations suggested a relatively short-term absence, but a second opinion revealed a more serious muscle tear. The club confirmed on Wednesday that Jensen will be out for an extended period, ruling him out of both domestic action and the Europa League group stage.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Jensen, who had just received his first-ever senior call-up to the Danish national team. He has since withdrawn from the squad, postponing a long-awaited international debut.
Jensen: “It was a childhood dream”
Speaking through the club’s official channels, Jensen expressed his disappointment but maintained optimism about his recovery:
“I am extremely disappointed that I will have to miss the upcoming European matches with FC Utrecht and my first call-up for the national team. It was a childhood dream, one that I will continue to work towards. I am happy that the team has done the job and qualified for the Europa League. In the coming period, I will do everything I can to be part of the team again soon.”
Europa League Return on the Horizon
Despite Jensen’s absence, FC Utrecht are gearing up for their first UEFA Europa League group stage match since 2011, with Olympique Lyon visiting the Stadion Galgenwaard on September 25. The club will now look to adjust tactically and fill the creative void left by Jensen’s injury as they prepare for a challenging European campaign.
With domestic and European fixtures piling up, the spotlight turns to Utrecht’s depth and resilience — and whether they can stay competitive without their in-form midfield maestro.
