Juventus have agreed personal terms with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but the transfer remains far from complete. Negotiations over the fee are deadlocked, with both clubs holding significantly different valuations of the Argentine international.
According to Italian journalist Alessio Lento, Martinez has already agreed the framework of a contract with the Serie A club, meaning there are no complications on the player’s side. The fee gap between the two clubs is the primary obstacle blocking the deal from advancing.
Martinez joined Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020 for around £17 million and has since grown into one of Europe’s top goalkeepers. He played a central role in establishing Villa among England’s elite and has been a key figure in Argentina’s international success.
Villa are not prepared to let him leave on their terms. The club maintained a firm asking price and held onto him last summer, and are adopting the same stance this window.

Why Juventus Are Targeting Martinez
Juventus’s interest is driven by a desire to strengthen the goalkeeping position. Michele Di Gregorio, who joined from Monza in 2024, posted 17 clean sheets in 37 appearances and conceded just 36 goals during the 2025/26 campaign. Despite those numbers, the club’s management is reportedly seeking a more established option to compete for the starting spot.
Di Gregorio’s own future adds uncertainty to the equation, with the goalkeeper attracting interest from Leeds United. Should he depart, Martinez would become Juventus’s immediate priority.
The Argentine brings experience across the biggest stages, a commanding presence, and the kind of composure under pressure that defines elite goalkeeping. His leadership qualities would carry weight in the dressing room as well.
