Why Benavidez vs Yarde Matters
With Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev tied up in a potential trilogy, Benavidez vs Yarde is the biggest available fight in the light-heavyweight division. Benavidez, unbeaten at 30-0 with 24 knockouts, enters his first WBC title defence after being elevated to full champion earlier this year.
Yarde, a two-time title challenger, has rebuilt since his loss to Beterbiev in 2023. Riding a four-fight win streak, he now gets a third opportunity to claim a world belt. Known for his explosive power and all-action style, the Londoner has a reputation for rising to the moment against elite opposition.
Benavidez: The Road to Riyadh
Benavidez captured his first world title at 168lbs in 2018 and has since beaten the likes of Anthony Dirrell, Caleb Plant, Demetrius Andrade and Oleksandr Gvozdyk. After failing to secure a long-anticipated showdown with Canelo Alvarez, he moved up to light heavyweight — where he immediately dominated David Morrell for the WBA Interim title.
With Bivol vacating earlier this year, Benavidez was elevated to full WBC champion, setting the stage for his first defence on foreign soil since 2014.
Yarde: The Beast from the East
Anthony Yarde’s career has been built on heavy hands and blockbuster moments. He came inches from stopping Sergey Kovalev in 2019 and pushed Artur Beterbiev to the limit in January 2023 in what many called the British fight of the year.
His most recent win — completing a trilogy against Lyndon Arthur — showed maturity and resilience. Now 27-3, with 24 knockouts, Yarde enters Riyadh knowing this may be his final world-title run.
