Italiano is currently among the frontrunners to take charge at Napoli, where a vacancy opened following Antonio Conte‘s exit.
“Bologna announces that it has appointed Domenico Tedesco as first team technical director,” the club stated, confirming a two-year contract with an option for a further year.
The 40-year-old holds joint Italian and German citizenship. Most recently, he managed Fenerbahce, stepping in to replace Jose Mourinho, but departed after less than one season in Istanbul.
His coaching career spans several major clubs. He led Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow, and RB Leipzig, winning the German Cup in 2022 with the latter. He also spent two years managing the Belgian national team.
Born in Italy, Tedesco was raised in Germany from the age of two. His surname itself means German in Italian.
Bologna finished the Serie A season in eighth place. Tedesco’s arrival slots into a wide reshaping of the Italian top flight’s coaching landscape, with AC Milan, Lazio, and Napoli all set for new managers this summer, while Atalanta and Fiorentina may also make changes in the dugout.
