Liverpool head coach Arne Slot confirmed that Florian Wirtz remains unavailable for the upcoming trip to Wolves. The German playmaker continues to recover from a back injury that forced him to miss recent fixtures against Nottingham Forest and West Ham United.

While Slot initially hoped for a quick return, the midfielder has not responded in time for Tuesday’s match. The coach suggested the absence could extend into the weekend.

“The game probably comes too soon tomorrow and maybe the game at the weekend,” Slot stated. “We hope to have him back next week.”

Midfield Adjustments and Squad Availability

In the absence of Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai is expected to retain his role as the primary advanced midfielder. Curtis Jones provides another tactical option for the starting lineup after remaining on the bench during the victory over West Ham. The squad depth faces a test as several other key players remain out of contention.

Alexander Isak is currently recovering from a broken leg and is targeting a return to full fitness by the end of the month. Wataru Endo is also navigating a recovery period following surgery on an injury sustained at Sunderland. Despite the setback, Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu remains optimistic about the midfielder’s availability for the World Cup.

Defensive options are limited with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni listed as long-term absentees. Jeremie Frimpong successfully returned to action last weekend, contributing to the scoring against West Ham.

Tactical Shift and Set-Piece Efficiency

Without their primary creative outlet in open play, Liverpool have leaned on set-piece routines to secure results. Slot analyzed the team’s efficiency, noting a shift toward statistical normality after a period of missed opportunities.

“Things went back to normal, mainly because I just said that we’ve created quite a lot of chances in the first half of the season that constantly did not go in. We were a lot of times very close. Maybe one or two small details have changed defensively and offensively, I think we are set up slightly, slightly different.”

The Reds have significantly closed the gap on Arsenal regarding goals scored from dead-ball situations. Slot acknowledged that while defensive details have evolved, the recent surge in scoring is largely a correction of previous misfortune.

Race for the Top Four

The midweek fixture provides a significant opportunity for Liverpool to climb the Premier League table. Following losses for Chelsea and Aston Villa, a victory at Molineux would see Liverpool pull level with Unai Emery‘s side and Manchester United on 51 points.
