The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony will celebrate the best male and female footballers, goalkeepers, young players, scorers, and coaches from the 2024/25 season. The gala will also award the top clubs of the year and the humanitarian Sócrates Award. Three new categories for female players debut this year: the Women’s Yashin Trophy, Women’s Gerd Müller Trophy, and Women’s Kopa Trophy.
What is the Ballon d’Or?
First presented in 1956 by France Football, the Ballon d’Or is football’s most prestigious individual accolade. It honours players for their outstanding achievements, talent, and sportsmanship over the season.
Where and When?
The 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or ceremony takes place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on Monday, 22 September 2025.

How is the Ballon d’Or Decided?
The Ballon d’Or is awarded based on three main criteria:
- Individual performances and decisive impact
- Team achievements
- Class and fair play
An international jury of football journalists votes: 100 voters for men’s football and 50 for women’s football. Each voter selects ten players, ranked from first to tenth, with points allocated (15–1). The player with the most points wins. Ties are broken by number of first-place votes, then second, and so forth.
Do Players Keep Their Trophies?
Yes. Every winner keeps their trophy, and can request official replicas. France Football also maintains two original Ballon d’Or trophies for exhibition purposes.
UEFA’s Role
Since November 2023, UEFA has co-organised the Ballon d’Or with Groupe Amaury. UEFA handles commercial rights and event organisation, while Groupe Amaury retains ownership and control of the voting process.
Masters of Ceremony
The 2025 event will be hosted by Dutch legend Ruud Gullit and British sports journalist Kate Scott.
