Al-Ittihad sporting director Ramon Planes has confirmed the Saudi Pro League’s shift toward signing elite players in their prime—with Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior firmly in their sights.
“Yes, I see it as a possibility that players like Vinícius could be here in Saudi Arabia. I see the league evolving, and it is feasible to have top-level players at their peak here. The trend is now to sign players who are at a very good age for soccer. It’s no longer just players in the final stage of their careers who are coming here.”
Planes’ comments, made to Onda Cero, underscore the kingdom’s aggressive recruitment strategy. The 25-year-old’s contract with Los Blancos runs until June 2027, but stalled renewal talks have fueled speculation. Earlier this year, an unnamed Saudi club reportedly offered Vinícius a five-year deal worth €1bn (£870m)—an offer he rejected.
Performance and Frustration at Bernabéu
Despite the off-field uncertainty, Vinícius remains a key contributor. In the 2025-26 campaign, he has registered five goals and six assists in 18 La Liga appearances, adding two more goals in six Champions League outings.
